Vevcani Carnival is among the most famous carnivals in the Balkans to nurture more than 1400 years. This event is located in Vevcani settlement in Macedonia. In the days when we celebrate the arrival of the Old New Year Vevcani turns into a large open stage and event. Each year Vevcani Carnival is visited by numerous guests from Macedonia and abroad.
Vevcani Carnival is recognized by the Federation of European Carnival Cities. People of Vevcani live for the Vevcani Carnival and their ambitions are every year to be better than the previous.
Last year Vevcani Carnival lasted five days, and this year 2015th will be six days. It is expected that during the days of carnival Vevcani visit over 20,000 guests.

Vevcani Carnival – Balkans famous carnival
Vevcani Carnival is street theater without directing. Masks are not available before the beginning of the event except traditional bridegroom, bride and stupid August.
Each citizen of Vevcani every year contemplates in which mask to be disguise. Every mask is unique and all masks are made inside homes of every family of Vevcani.
People of Vevcani will tell you everything that you like to know, but he will never tell you what will be his mask for Vevcani Carnival. People of Vevcani are the authors of the masks and the dialogue of what will hatch. Through all years of the Vevcani Carnival even one government was remained not uncritical.
During days of carnival every house in Vevcani is open to all guests. Everyone who comes will be welcomed with nice Vevcani wine, brandy and well known Lukanci.
The main event is the traditional carnival procession which begin on 13th January around 14 pm with a parade of groups from Upper and Lower neighborhood.

Parade of Vevcani Carnival in central Vevchani will last up to 16 hours. Through Vevcani Carnival parade groups are performing on the streets traditional Macedonian dance “ORO”.The event will end with the traditional burning of the masks on 14 January.
